John Nunan Murray, 83, of Bridgeport and Fairfield, beloved son of the late Michael Coughlin Murray and Mary Nunan Murray, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Carolton Convalescent Hospital, Fairfield. John was a graduate of Saint Augustine Grammar School and Fairfield College Preparatory School, Class of 1944. After graduating from Prep, John entered the United States Army, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II. Upon his Honorable Discharge, John resumed his education and graduated from Boston College with a degree in Sociology. He also took post-graduate courses in Mathematics at Fairfield University and Fordham University. John spent his employment years working as a computer programmer/systems analyst for MetLife in New York City, where he lived for over fifty years. But every weekend, John could be found on Long Island Sound piloting the several boats that he owned during his life, or, in later years, on the Red Course at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course. Having a lifelong interest in medicine, after his retirement, for the next twenty-five years or so, John spent his time as a volunteer at two New York City hospitals. Always with a new joke, John was a kind, intelligent and loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and cousin. In addition to his parents and two nephews, Michael Kearns and Mark Reinhard, John was predeceased by his beloved siblings, Kathleen Kearns, Roselyn Brennan, Maura Bosse, Thomas Murray and Eileen Reinhard. John is survived by his very special first cousin, Marion Donegan of Bridgeport, who was like a sister to him, and first cousins T. Emmett Murray of Stratford, Sheila Murray Russo of Raleigh, N.C., Thomas Murray of Weston, Mary Murray Cunningham of West Hartford, Thomas and James Ganley of Fairfield, Delia Ganley of County Westmeath, Ireland, James Murray of County Roscommon, Ireland, Rose Murray Murren of Fairfield, Frances Murray Rabinowitz of Guilford, Ct,; by his brother-in-law, Dr. Harold Reinhard of Warren, Pa and his sister-in-law, Beatrice Murray of Southbury, Ct and by his twenty-two nieces and nephews, forty-four grandnieces and grandnephews, and his sixteen great grandnieces and great grandnephews. John's family would like to thank everyone at Carolton Convalescent Hospital for their kind and loving care of John. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 10:00a.m., in St. Augustine Cathedral, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial.
