Jack (Boppie) Schlechtweg, age 91, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully Friday, January 22, 2010 at home with his loving family at his side. He was predeceased by his devoted wife Sophie (Oldie). Jack was born in Stamford on April 19, 1918 to John George and Amelia Sarah Louise Schlechtweg. Jack graduated from Stamford High School in 1936. He worked in the machine shop at Yale & Towne and later as a milkman for Sealtest Dairy. Jack was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. Reserve. After his retirement in 1961, he and his wife dedicated many years as volunteers for the Stamford Aid for Retarded and he also worked as a custodian for the Stamford Police Department. Jack was always there for his family when needed and will always be remembered as a loving and loyal husband and a dedicated, loving and proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his son, Jack, and his wife Jo-Ann of Trumbull and daughter Charlene Romanos, and her husband, Paul, of Kennebunkport, ME. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren; Jack Schlechtweg and his wife Kristin; Sarah (Schlechtweg) Grabowski and her husband Richard; Jenny Schlechtweg; Tracy (Romanos) Fusco and her husband Ralph of Missouri City, TX; PJ Romanos and his wife, Faith of Rosewell, GA; and Matt Romanos of Guilford, CT. In addition, he has seven great-grandchildren; Matthew Docimo; Taylor Fusco; Brandon, Hutch, Hannah, Tanner and Kailey Romanos. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, Trumbull with the Rev. Elsa Worth, Rector, officiating. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to VNS of Connecticut Hospice Care, 40 Lindeman Drive, Trumbull, CT 06611 in his name.
