Joseph J. Corey, age 83, of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Helen Curry Corey, passed away peacefully Monday, January 24, 2011, in his home. Joseph was born in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Joseph J. and Jane O'Neill Corey and has resided in Trumbull over 40 years. During high school he studied the trumpet and earned the honor of Eagle Scout distinction. After graduating from St. Joseph's Preparatory High School in 1945, he went on to achieve a degree in Philosophy and education from Woodstock Seminary. He then attended Drexel University obtaining a degree in engineering. After moving from his native Philadelphia to Connecticut he earned his master's degree in engineering from the University of Bridgeport, and later taught at the Bridgeport Engineering Institute in the evening school. He worked for General Electric, Norden Systems, and Pitney Bowes from which he retired after 20 years. Joseph was a dedicated member of St. Theresa Parish. Survivors include four loving children, Mary Ellen Barton and husband Richard of Derby, Joseph J. Corey III and wife Maryanne of Trumbull, Monica Austin and husband Michael of Southborough, MA and Paul M. Corey and wife Joy of West Springfield, MA, eight cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Barton, Evan and Zachary Corey, Andrew and Adam Armin, Alexia and Samantha Austin and Ian Corey; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jane Boulogue. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 am meeting directly in St. Theresa Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
