Joseph G. Oprendek, age 86, of Trumbull, dearly beloved husband of the late Jean F. Velky Oprendek, died July 1, 2007, at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport he had been a Trumbull resident over 50 years. Mr. Oprendek was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, enlisting in 1940 and served with the 33rd Infantry Ordinance Division for five years. He was stationed in Panama, Trinidad, Surinam, Dutch Guyana and Italy. For 37 years he worked as a brick mason for the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers Union Local # 2 and went on to work and retired from the paint shop at the Bullard Company. Mr. Oprendek was a devoted Yankee fan and an avid bowler, most recently enjoying bowling with the Easton Senior League and friends at the Nutmeg Lanes. Survivors include his loving children, Mark Oprendek of Southbury, Michael Oprendek of Trumbull and Susan Oprendek of Danbury, two sisters, Anne Biagiarelli of Easton and Irene Sanislo of Stratford; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. direct to St. Theresa Church, Trumbull, with a Mass Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
