Joseph M. Wynne, age 78 of Stratford died Wednesday, February 4, 2026 in his home. He was the beloved husband of Lili Rejec Wynne and the loving father of Sarah Beth Thomasi. Born in Bridgeport, he was a former Shelton resident before moving to Stratford. He was the son of the late Vincent and Margaret McCabe Wynne. Joseph retired after 41 years with the IRS as Area Manager of the Northeast. He was a softball coach, gardener and enjoyed offshore fishing. He supported UConn Women’s Basketball, Sacred Heart University, and the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed following his nephew Woody’s baseball journey and spoiling his grandpups with cookies over the years. He loved taking trips to New Haven for white clam pizza and going to Brazi’s and Lorenzo's. Joseph will be remembered as a sentimental Irishman with a great memory. He was a wonderful big brother, patriarch of the family and a jokester. He was humble, no nonsense, supportive of the military and first responders and loved everything to do with the movie Top Gun. He was also a longtime and devoted parishioner at Saint Mark’s Church in Stratford. In addition to his wife Lili, he has survived by his daughter, Sarah Thomasi and her husband Ed, brothers Thomas Wynne and his wife Nancy of Georgia, Vincent M. Wynne Jr. of New Haven, sister Margaret Lariccia of Bridgeport, stepchildren Eliana and Gerardo and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Joseph’s first wife Carol Frizinia Wynne predeceased him in 2000. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12 noon in St. Mark’s Church, Stratford with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Thursday morning 9:00am – 11:00am in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
