Obituary

June A. (Slatcher) Wilkes age 94 longtime resident of Monroe died Thursday, April 16, 2026. Born in Bridgeport, she was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Wilkes and daughter of the late George and Ethel (Newhall) Slatcher. Her greatest job was homemaker for an active houseful of boys, but she was also bookkeeper for Raymond S Wilkes Plumbing and Heating. She was active in the Monroe Congregational Church, being one of the founders of the Craft Show that became the Strawberry Festival in Monroe. In her youth, June swam with the Aqua Maids, later becoming an avid bowler and premier poker player. She is survived by her sons Bruce and his wife Rosemarie of Watertown, Larry and his wife Mary Ellen of Monroe, William of Prospect and Daren and his wife, Mindy of Queens, New York, seven grandchildren, four grand spouses/partners and six great grandchildren. All of whom she loved equally, deeply and without reservation. She is pre-deceased by her brothers, George and Frederick Slatcher, George’s wife, Theresa, and survived by her sister-in-law Beverly. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1 at 11 AM in the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and 4 Gorham Place, Trumbull. Interment will follow in Park Cemetery, Bridgeport.
