Kenneth A. Maloney, age 92 of Fairfield died Saturday, August 23, 2014 in his home. He was the beloved husband of Katherine Jean Maloney. Born in Bridgeport, Mr. Maloney enlisted in the Air Force in 1942, joining the fledgling helicopter group first at Sikorsky aircraft and then in the South Pacific. Upon his return, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Bridgeport and began his professional career in public relations at the consulting firm of Howard H. Comstock. Following that he held numerous public relations and communications positions at General Electric prior to starting his own public relations firm in 1961. Mr. Maloney was a lifelong supporter and leader of the Barnum Festival. He served as its President in 1958, its Ringmaster in 1960, and has been an active board member ever since. He applied his creative talents in writing, drawing and photography to countless Barnum Festival publications. Mr. Maloney was an active supporter of many other community service organizations, including the United Way, Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. In 1956, The Junior Chamber of Commerce named him Young Man of the Year. Mr. Maloney worked tirelessly for many other organizations including Saint Vincent's Hospital and the Eastern Ski Writers Association. In addition to his wife Jean he is survived by five loving children, Hope Maloney of Port Townsend, WA, Lynne Maloney and her husband Jim of Scituate, MA, Leslie Maloney and her husband Mark of Andover, MA, Kenneth Maloney Jr. and his wife Sara of Brookline, MA and Kristen Maloney of Andover, MA, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald J. Maloney. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call Thursday 4-8pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
