It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marcia Gruce, a woman of boundless faith, kindness and class. Marcia Gruce was born January 6,1942 and transitioned from this life on May 22, 2026. Through her journey, she touched many lives with her wisdom and delicate spirit. Marcia’s remarkable life will forever be an inspiration: a testament to her integrity, hard working nature and reverence.
Marcia graduated from Lauralton Hall and Southern CT State University, Marcia attained a Master’s in Education and taught Math at Central High School in Bridgeport for over 35 years . Marcia loved and adored her niece, Laura and her nephews Christopher and Drew. She was very proud of all of their accomplishments her nephews children, and always reminisced of their great memories together for the last 57 years, at her home in Doreen Drive. Marcia is pre-deceased by her brother, Stephen E. Gruce Jr., her parents Anna Habansky Gruce and Stephen E Gruce Sr. her Niece Amanda Gruce, great-niece Jayden Gruce and dear friend Lynn Corra. Marcia missed her late brother, Stephen, every day and took care of their parents through her life.
Marcia is survived by her beloved niece & god-daughter Laura S. Gruce of Miami, her nephew Christopher S. Gruce, his wife: Erin Gruce , sons: Sean and Ryan Gruce, step nephew Drew T. Nucifora, beloved Sister-in-Law, Susan Billings of Cape Cod MA, the beloved Habansky family members: Alan, Pattee, Janet, Kate, Jerry and Avi, Jesse, Jay, Emily, Rebecca and Jill. In life, Marcia enjoyed being part of St Patricks Parish, working with Fr. Chip to establish the Children’s Bible study and Sunday School program and many spiritual retreats, She enjoyed attending Opera, Theater, Orchestra, trips to New York City and Upstate New York, her amazing gift of knitting for family friends and the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St Patrick’s Parish, and frequent trips with her niece and nephews to the local Diner, and Family Holiday gatherings in New York and Black Rock Connecticut and Christmas at the Met. Family would like to thank Father Chip ONeil , and the tremendous care from Alice, Sandy Rubis and Rec therapy visits from Laurel Wright –Allen and care from Camilla Renn, including 6 years of weekly attentive visits from Janet and Kate Habansky.
A Catholic Mass and Burial took place on May 28th at St. Patrick’s Parish in Bridgeport, and Burial at St. Michaels Cemetery . Pallbearers were: Christopher Gruce, Ryan Gruce, Sean Gruce and Drew Nucifora. Special gratitude to Lana Pirulli and Larry Cass for the beautiful flowers also to Janet Habansky and Patricia Stack for all of their help with the services.
She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of donations, we encourage honoring Marcia’s legacy with sincere acts of love, kindness and support to one another. “Be the change in the world for the Better”
