Margaret Ann “Peggy” Hennessy, 104, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 26, 1922, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to the late Michael and Catherine (Lavin) Clyons. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Bill and Jack.

Peggy grew up in Bridgeport surrounded by a large extended family who instilled in her a deep appreciation for her Irish heritage, family traditions, and faith. She graduated from Central High School and during World War II worked for Chance Vought Corporation, helping produce the F4U Corsair fighter aircraft. In 1941, she married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Hennessy, before he left to serve in Europe during World War II.

After Bob returned home, Peggy helped him establish Hennessy Funeral Home in Bridgeport. The business thrived for many years and became an important part of the community, leaving a lasting legacy that continues today through Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home in Trumbull.

Peggy and Bob shared 63 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2004. Together, they lived in Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Milford, raising their four children: Barbara Neel, Carole Hennessy (Tom Denny), Marie Mastronardi (Joseph Mastronardi), and Bob Hennessy, all of whom survive her.

Family was the center of Peggy’s life. She cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and took great pride in watching each generation grow. She shared with them her Irish charm, her strong faith in God and her appreciation for the simple beauty of everyday life.

Peggy had a lifelong love of reading, music, art, and nature. She was an accomplished watercolor artist who found beauty in the world around her, especially at her beloved home on Walnut Beach in Milford, where she enjoyed long walks along the shoreline and the peaceful bird sanctuary. She loved playing bridge with her friends, was famously competitive, and looked forward to holidays and family gatherings filled with laughter and stories. Her dearest friends and neighbors, including Sue, Ed, Pat, Peggy and Mark held a special place in her heart, and their friendship, kindness, and companionship brought her many years of happiness.

She also loved to cook for her family. No one could make a sandwich quite like Nana, and her famous creations became known throughout the family as a “Nanwich,” always served with chips and a pickle.

Peggy had a natural grace and elegance about her. She was always fashionable, loved a “nice knit,” and carried herself with a warmth, class, and charm that made her unforgettable.

Peggy leaves behind her four children; grandchildren Christiane Mueller (Scott Mueller), Michael Neel, Susanne Catsman (Werner Catsman), Julia Mastronardi Yakovich, Anne Miller (Justin Miller), and Michael Mastronardi (Amber Mastronardi); and seven great-grandchildren; Annabelle, Hannah, Chloe, Adrienne, Joseph, Nora, and Nola.

Her family will remember her not only for the 104 years she was given, but for the love, faith, laughter, traditions, and simple joys she passed down through generations. Her life was a beautiful reflection of what she valued most: faith in God, love of family, kindness to others, and gratitude for each new day.

A private Committal Service and Interment will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford, CT followed by a Memorial Gathering in October with her extended family and friends.
