Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Regan Hemenway, age 88 of Black Rock died Tuesday February 5, 2008 at the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital, Fairfield. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles G. Hemenway Sr. Born in Bridgeport she was a longtime Fairfield resident. A talented ballerina and singer in her youth she studied under Irene Comer and Catherine Russell. Betty later studied obstetrical nursing and worked as a registered nurse in the labor and delivery department at St. Vincent's Medical Center. She was active with the Bellarmine Guild at Fairfield Prep and the Ladies Guild at St. Thomas. Survivors include her loving children, son, Charles G. Hemenway Jr. M.D. and his wife Carol, daughters Betsy Redgate and her husband Tom, and Cathy Stone, all of Fairfield, and Patricia Hemenway Cook and her husband Don of Bridgeport, seven grandchildren, Charles G. Hemenway III, Molly Hemenway, Sarah Lally, Cara Redgate, Patrick Redgate, Brendan Stone, and Mary Catherine Stone Creece, six great grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Betty's sister Jean LaPointe and grandson Thomas Redgate predeceased her. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00a.m. meeting directly in St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Dr., Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
