Obituary

M. Natalie Simone, a resident of Spring Meadows, Trumbull, died February 9, 2008, at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Miss Simone was born in Bridgeport, daughter of Joseph E. Simone Sr. and Mary G. Smith Simone and was a lifelong resident before moving to Trumbull. She was in the first class to receive all four years of high school education at Warren Harding High School, graduated from the Bridgeport Normal School , class of 1931 and received her third year certification in 1935. Miss Simone went on to receive her B.S. degree in 1948 from New Haven State Teachers College and her M.A. degree in 1953 from Fairfield University. In the summer of 1964, she attended the University of Puerto Rico's NDEA Summer English Institute and US Office of Education – Language Development Program. During her career with the Bridgeport School System, she taught at Franklin School, Warren Harding at night in Americanization classes and English as a second language at Harding, Bassick and Central High Schools. She was a life member of the Connecticut State Teachers Association, National Education Association and a member of the Bridgeport Art League. Miss Simone also served 28 years as a Grey Lady at Bridgeport Hospital information desk, lector at St. Augustine Cathedral and volunteer at St. Augustine Cathedral Thrift Shop. She is survived by her loving brother, William B. Simone and his wife Patricia of Kennebunk, Maine. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph E. Simone Jr. and her sister, M. Evelyn Simone. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Stephen Church, Trumbull, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Tuesday morning 9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m., at the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street & Gorham Place, Trumbull.
