Marie "Babe" D. Fensore Mercaldi, age 93 of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Peter F. Mercaldi, Sr., passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on April 27, 1922, she was the devoted daughter of the late James and Marie Kelly Fensore. Marie was a Bridgeport resident most of her life, residing the last two years at Lord Chamberlain Health Care Center in Stratford, where she was affectionately known as "Miss Hollywood". She was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy W.A.V.E.S. at Vero Beach, FL. Following her service, she was a telephone operator at the Bridgeport Brass Company. Marie was regarded by her family and friends as an "angel on earth". Survivors include her devoted children; Peter F Mercaldi, Jr. of Aurora, CO, James Mercaldi of Bridgeport, Vincent Mercaldi of Milford, Marie Mercaldi of Stratford and Michael Mercaldi of Arlington, VA, as well as a brother James Fensore and wife Ann of Southbury and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Arthur and Ralph Fensore and sisters Winnifred Fensore and Thelma Bodnar. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:00a.m., from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 10:00a.m., in St. Patrick Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 – 8:00p.m., in the funeral home.
