Obituary

Mario Daniel Sacco, 92, born on October 16, 1916, a resident of Bridgeport, CT, was called home on July 5, 2009.  Born in Waterbury, CT to Pasquale and Teresa Palma Sacco, he graduated from Hillhouse High School.  Mario managed Bridgeport's Theater Grill before joining the Army.  A veteran of World War II, he served with the 407th Anti-Aircraft Battalion in the European Theatre of Operation.  He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Normandy invasion.  He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. Mario was employed by the Longshore Country Club for 7 years before opening Mario's Restaurant with his partner Frank DeMace in 1967.  Known for his quick wit and thunderous voice, he formed lasting friendships with his customers and employees.  Mario was always willing to feed the hungry and help anyone who asked.  He was a lifetime member of The Umbrella Club, The 100 Club (deceased firemen and state policemen), The Lambs Club (actors), V.F.W., and the American Legion. His first wife Dorothy, brother, Joseph Sacco, sister, Helen Rapuano preceded him to glory.  He is survived by his spouse, sister, Amelia Salemme, nieces, Terry (Al) Cosenza, Marion Smith and Terry Ann Sacco, three stepchildren, six grandnephews, three grandnieces, and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be held on Friday, July 17th at 10 am at Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Avenue, Westport, CT.  Burial will be held at Assumption Cemetery immediately after the services.  Reception will be held at Nistico's Red Barn in Westport.    In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Assumption Church.
