Marion Veronica Donegan, age 92, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Marion, known lovingly by her family as Madgie, was born on August 3, 1919, the only child of Delia Murray Donegan and Joseph Donegan of County Westmeath, Ireland. She was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport and grew up spending many happy hours with her aunt and uncle, Michael and Mary Murray, and their six children on Sherwood Avenue. Marion was educated at St. Augustine's Grammar School, Bassick High School, and Booth and Bayliss Business School. Prior to her retirement, Marion was employed at First National Bank in Bridgeport for over thirty years. As a young woman, Marion was a championship bowler, winning numerous awards. She loved spending vacations with the Murray family at their home on Lake Zoar in Southbury, CT. She especially looked forward to the lunches, shopping sprees, and daily phone calls with her cousins Kathleen, Roselyn, and Maura. In her later years, Marion enjoyed playing Bingo with her many friends at the Laurelwood Place Apartments. Marion was an avid reader and enjoyed following the local politics of Bridgeport. She was passionate about her Irish heritage and loved to reminisce about her trip to Ireland and the time spent with her Irish relatives. She was a devoted godmother to Peb, Sheila and Shaun. Marion will be greatly missed for her love of family and dedication to friends. She is survived by her cousins-in-law Beatrice Murray and Harold Reinhard, her beloved Murray first cousins, and her many "nieces and nephews". Marion was predeceased by her special cousins Kathleen Kearns, Roselyn Brennan, Maura Bosse, Thomas Murray, Eileen Reinhard, and John Murray, who all thought of Marion not as a cousin, but as a sister. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00am in St. Augustine Cathedral, Bridgeport with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Friday morning 8:15am – 9:15am in Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. To send online condolences please visit www.redgatehennessy.com
