Obituary

Marjorie Howe Scott Doty died Monday, November 29, 2010.  She was a resident of Meadow Ridge Community in Redding. Born June 22, 1919 she was the daughter of Clement Scott and Henrietta Howe Scott.  She grew up in Hartford where her family shared a residential block with cousins and extended family.  This early family bond drew her close to family, and throughout her life she nurtured loving relationships with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces.  She gathered them in for many holidays and spontaneous visits throughout the years. She attended The Oxford School in West Hartford, CT and graduated from The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY.   She graduated from Vassar College in 1941 with a BA in Medieval History and a life long appreciation of art history. In 1942 she married Leete Parmelee Doty.  Together for 68 years they lovingly cared for each other and for a growing family and numerous treasured friends.  The early years of their marriage were spent in Kansas City. Later they returned to Connecticut where they lived in West Hartford and then in Fairfield.  For forty years they lived on Meeting House Lane behind the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church which she so loved. Always a giver, she volunteered her time to church and community activities.  She was active in the Junior League, serving as President while in Hartford. Her devotion to The Greenfield Hill Congregational Church included serving as a Deacon and as a member of the Women's Guild raising support for local aid. She was a long standing member of Church Women United of Fairfield.  She volunteered at the YWCA of Greater Bridgeport, serving three years as its President. Other activities included  The United Way and the Bridgeport Area Foundation where she was a Director and member of its Distribution Committee.  For over 20 years she coordinated volunteers for Meals on Wheels in Fairfield. She was a member of Chapter H PEO Sisterhood, The Colonial Dames of America in Connecticut and the Fairfield Beach Club. Her accepting and loving nature, optimism and energy were an inspiration to all.  Her unselfish generosity of spirit made this world a better place. She was predeceased by her husband, Leete Doty, her brother, Clement Scott, Jr. and her sister, Henrietta von Moy.  She is survived by her daughters, Carol Kalauskas and husband, Charles of Arlington, MA, Sarah Morton and husband, Michael of Big Horn, WY, Marilyn Shaver and husband, Troy of Spring Island, SC and by grandchildren: Ethan Morton and wife, KC; Mallory Morton Elliott and husband, Michael, Barrett and Ryan Shaver, Rebecca, Sarah and Peter Kalauskas, and great grandchildren Vivian and Owen Elliott.    A memorial service will be held at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield on Saturday, January 8 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Memorial Fund at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield, CT  06824.  Private interment will be in a family plot in Hartford.  Arrangements by the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Trumbull.
