Mary Phelan Egan, age 78, beloved wife of the late Maurice H. Egan, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at St. Joseph's Manor, Trumbull. Mary was born in Bridgeport, daughter of the late J. Gerald and Ruthlyn Chamberlain Phelan, and resided many years in Mount Kisco, NY. She was a graduate of Lauralton Hall, class of 1948 and Rosemont College, PA, class of 1952. Mary was the first woman to be hired by Sports Illustrated, working in advertising and sales. After marriage and moving to Mount Kisco, NY, she began a long and accomplished career in real estate, retiring as a principal owner and president of Hecht, Egan, & Nash, Inc., Chappaqua, NY. While living in Mount Kisco, she was active in community affairs, served in almost every position in the real estate industry, was a member and past president of the Northern Westchester County Board of Realtors, and named Westchester Realtor of the Year. Survivors include a brother, John G. Phelan and wife Nan of New Milford, a sister, Alice Flynn-Woolley and husband Michael of Pompano, FL and New Milford. She was also the loving aunt to three nieces, and one nephew, Kathleen Nagle of Wellesley, MA, Katherine Collins, of Old Lyme, Elizabeth Blagys, of Bridgeport, and John G. Phelan Jr., of Fairfield, and several grand nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 9:30am, meeting directly in St. Stephen Church, 6948 Main Street, Trumbull, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Mount Kisco, NY. There will be no prior calling hours.
