Mary Hollister Redgate, beloved wife of the late John Crawford "Bus" Redgate passed away on September 14, 2010 at the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital. Mary affectionately known to all as "Mama Mary" was born on July 24, 1909 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. She was the only child of Catherine Brennan and Frank Hollister. Mary moved to Bridgeport after her marriage to Bus in June, 1932. She was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle in New York and taught for many years in the Bridgeport School System at Bassick, Whittier and Blackham Schools. She was a member and past president of the Robert Bellarmine Guild at Fairfield Prep and the Alumni Association of the College of New Rochelle. After her retirement, Mary became an avid bridge player. She was a daily communicant at Our Lady of Assumption, which became her parish after moving to Fairfield. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: John Hollister and his wife Nancy Wildes of Alexandria, Virginia, William Thomas and his wife Ellen Shaughnessy, and Thomas Joseph and his wife Betsy Hemenway of Fairfield, and Iris Maennicke of Florida. She had 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She is predeceased by an infant son, her third son, Frank in 2006, her grandson, Thomas and her great granddaughter, Grace. Mary was deeply loved for her faith-filled and positive spirit which continually inspired and comforted her family, friends, and even the staff of Carolton who cared for her during the last few months of her life. We are all blessed to have been loved by her and to have had her with us for so many years! Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 9:30am meeting directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial.
