Obituary

Mary Volpe, formerly of Brooklyn, New York, died comfortably at home on June 27, 2018, in Monroe, Connecticut, at age 86. Born in Roccella Ionica, Calabria, Italy, to Domenico Ursino and Caterina Pisani, she emigrated to Brooklyn, where she met her husband of 58 years, the late Antonio Volpe. They spent many years traveling to Italy together. Mary was beloved by all who knew her for her generosity, kindness and humor. She enjoyed making beautiful flower bouquets from her garden, and admiring the beauty of Connecticut's birds and wildlife. Mary is survived by her daughters Rosemary Volpe and Catherine Volpe, grandsons Philip and Jonathan Hammer, of Monroe, and by her son Costantino Volpe, his wife Jacqueline Burke Volpe, and grandsons Timothy and Luke Volpe of Wrentham, Massachusetts. The youngest of 13 siblings, she is also survived by a sister, Luiga Lombardo, and many dear nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 2, at 9:30 am, at Saint Jude Roman Catholic Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike (Route 111), Monroe (www.stjuderc.com). Interment will follow at 1:00 pm at Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th Street, Brooklyn, NY (www.green-wood.com). Donations in Mary's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (mda.org) are appreciated.
