Obituary

Mary F. Walsh, age 94, of Trumbull, died Monday, August 10, 2009 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. Coleman and May McIntosh Coleman. Mary survived Pearl Harbor where she went to be married in 1941. Her life centered around her two loves, children and books. Mary graduated from the University of Bridgeport with degrees in elementary education. For 32 years she was a kindergarten teacher, retiring after 20 years in New Canaan. She was a longtime volunteer for the Trumbull Center Nichols Memorial Library and a member of the library board creating one of the first children's rooms in Trumbull. Survivors include her son, Tom Walsh, who she lived with in Trumbull; daughters, Francie Houston and her husband, Dan Young of Rocky Hill, and Patricia Towne and her husband, Kevin of Bethany; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and a great great grandchild. Friends may call Sunday 3 to 7 p.m. in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Please come dressed as you wish. Interment will be Monday at 9 a.m. in St. Michael's Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Avenue, Stratford. In lieu of flowers please make contributions in her memory to the Trumbull Library, 33 Quality Street, Trumbull, CT 06611 to be used for books in the children's room.
