Mervil L. Shifflett, passed away on August 19, 2007, at the age of 85. He was born in Virginia, but came to reside in Bridgeport at the age of 19. He worked and retired from Jenkin's Valves after 47 years. Merv served in the Army in World War II as a Scout/Sharpshooter and received the Purple Heart and Silver Star. He married Norma E. Kilpatrick on March 23, 1943. Merv is predeceased by his wife Norma, a son Robert Shifflett, three brothers Nelson, Jack, and Robert Shifflett, two sisters Delores and Beverly Shifflett. He is survived by a brother, Claude Shifflett, two sisters, Charlotte Kilpatrick and Francis Blyth, four daughters, Cheryl Lopato, Linda Pataky, Gloria Kozlov and Nancy Larkin, seven grandchildren, John and Leanne Lopato, Chucky and Rebecca Pataky, and Melissa, Sarah and R.J. Larkin, seven great grandchildren, Adrian and Angelica Larkin, Kaylee and Leila Larkin, Benny Callahan, and Charlie and Tommy Pataky, numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many great friends. Merv will be sadly missed by all. There will be an open memorial service on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, Newtown at 11:00 am.
