M.W. (Maury) Johnson, age 88, of Oronoque Village, Stratford, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012 in his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Lois C. Brautigam Johnson. Maury was born in New Underwood, SD, son of the late William T. and Louise M. Kammerer Johnson and lived in Trumbull for many years, before moving to Stratford. He was a World War II Naval Veteran, serving in Guam and Okinawa and received a degree in marketing from the University of Denver. For 27 years he worked in numerous places across the country in marketing and advertising for General Electric, and then for Combustion Engineering in Stamford, retiring in 1985. Volunteerism has always been a passion of Maury's, during and following his career. He received the Citizen of the Year Award from the town of Trumbull and an award from the town of Stratford for his work with the Communications Commission of the school board and the Economic Development Commission. At Oronoque Village he served for ten years as editor of the Oronoque Villager. Maury was an active member of the A.A.R.P., both on the state and national level and was proud of his service as Chief Trainer in Driver Safety; also CT Volunteer Leader of the Year and a co-founder of the Grandparents Task Force. A communicant of St. Theresa Church, Trumbull, he served on the finance committee, as a Eucharistic Minister and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Maury was diagnosed in 2008 with ALS and became an enthusiastic participant in ALS Chapter activities. Survivors include, son, Paul A. Johnson and wife, Ah of Great Neck, Long Island, daughter, Mary Johnson of Worcester, MA, granddaughter, Louise Marie O'Neill, good friend, Deborah Snell, three brothers, Sidney Johnson of Brookings, SD, Charles Johnson and wife Betty of CO & AZ and Dale Johnson and wife Clarabeth of Billings, MT, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy King of Whittier, CA and Algina Johnson of Dayton, NV. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull. Interment will be private.
