Obituary

Norma (Glancy) MacDaniel, age 100, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on January 23, 2023 at St. Vincent's Hospital. Norma was the daughter of the late Francis and Theresa (Saur) Glancy. She was a graduate of Central H.S. and Butler Business School. She worked at General Electric until she met and married the love of her life, the late Francis MacDaniel.  They raised their four daughters in Bridgeport Ct. Norma returned to work in her later years as an Office Manager for the Dept. of Psychology at University of Bridgeport.

She enjoyed being a member of the Trumbull Women's Club, was a proud member of the Holy Cross Bowling League, and loved horseback riding in Beardsley Park in her early years. But her favorite role was that of a devoted mother and grandmother. She was never too busy to play UNO and Old Maid with her beloved grandchildren, and was blessed in retirement to share in caring for them along with her husband "Mac". Both rarely missed cheering their grandchildren on in countless games, recitals, and concerts over the years. She was known for her delicious molasses cookies, and beautiful hand knitted Irish cable afghans. She loved reading, playing pinochle, rooting for her favorite sport teams along with Mac (esp. the UConn Girls BB teams), watching game shows (Jeopardy!  Wheel of Fortune!), and trips with family to Disney World and Cape Cod. She was well loved, and will be forever missed.

Norma is survived by her four devoted daughters: Patricia Manion of Tolland, Ma, Joan Bissonnette and her husband Andy of Winchester, Ma, Laurie Huebner and her husband Allen of North Port, Fla., and Amy Gavaghan and her husband Michael of Monroe, Ct; whose family she lived with for the past 5 years of her life, providing her with loving care and laughter until the day she died. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Sara (Bissonnette) Cooney and husband Geoff, Patrick Manion and his wife Sarah, Laurie (Manion) Hadick and her husband Rob, Bryan Bissonnette, Sean Gavaghan and his wife Sara Neitzel, Shane Huebner, Samantha Bissonnette and her husband Andy Riemer, Eric Gavaghan, Dylan Huebner, and Meghan Gavaghan; 5 great-grandchildren: Liam, Alana, and Vivian Cooney, Alex Manion, and Conor Neitzel Gavaghan; and several nieces and nephews. Norma was predeceased by her husband Francis, her brother Leonard Glancy, sister Annamary Searles, and her son-in-law Gerald Manion. We want to acknowledge Norma's wonderful caregivers: Diana Sanchez and Paulina Romaniuk, who provided her with loving support in her later years.
