Obituary

Patricia Ege Lareau, age 72, of Fairfield, CT, and formerly of Darien, CT, Gilford, NH, and Vero Beach, FL, lost her 7 ½ year battle with breast cancer on June 15, 2015. Born in Rockville Center, Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of Alphon and Mary Walsh Ege. Mrs. Lareau received her training to be a Registered Nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York, and she fulfilled a passion for gardening by becoming a Certified Landscape Designer at the New York Botanical Gardens.  Patty generously shared her keen landscaping skills with her family and friends.  She also had an eye for interior design and put this talent to use with multiple total-house renovations. She pursued her love of music as a member in choirs in Connecticut and Vero Beach, FL.  Patty also pursued her passion for watercolors through many art classes and was an avid reader.  She was an active volunteer for many charities, including the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Habitat for Humanity, and numerous church, social, and club committees, and she served as a member of the Board of Directors at Hawks Nest Golf Club in Vero Beach, FL.  An active sportswoman, Patty participated in sailing, tennis, and golf championships. Patty loved spending time with her family and traveling the world.  She enjoyed sailing in the Caribbean and Long Island Sound and hiking the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  Her travels took her coast-to-coast with children and grandchildren, and she really enjoyed later trips throughout Europe, especially France, where she continued to practice and study the French language. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, J. Aldon Lareau, and three loving children: daughter Jennifer Anne Crotty and her husband, Patrick, of Darien, CT, and two sons, J. Bradford Lareau and his wife, Amy, of Guilford, CT, and J. Scott Lareau and his wife, Janice, of Fairfield, CT.  She was a loving and adventurous grandmother to seven grandchildren:  Maggie Rose Crotty; Dillon, Jack, and Sean Lareau; and Tatum, Quinn, and Jane Lareau.  She is also survived by her sisters, Judy Doran and her husband, Richard, Karen Caputo and Mike Clarke, and her brother, Kevin Ege and his wife, Sue Stegmeyer, as well as sister-in-law Puddi Kullberg and her husband, Richard, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family is planning a Celebration of Her Life at a later date. To send online condolences please visit www.redgatehennessy.com.
