Obituary

Peter J. Morgero, beloved widower of Gloria T. Morgero, passed away in Shelton, CT on April 16, 2015 at the age of 93 years old.  Peter was born to Vito and Margaret Morgero on October 3, 1921 in New York, NY. Peter grew up in Brooklyn, NY and met the love of his life, Gloria, in 1941.  He served in the United States Marine Corp in World War II, participating in the Asiatic-Pacific campaigns in Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima and was present during the iconic raising of the flag at the Battle of Iwo Jima.  He was wounded in action against the enemy in Guam in 1944 and received the Purple Heart.   Upon returning from the war, he married Gloria on June 30, 1946.  They moved to Connecticut in 1957 and raised their family in Trumbull for 25 years.  During his years in Trumbull, Peter was very active in St. Catherine of Siena Church in Trumbull serving in many capacities including the first Parish Advisory Board and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. After many years in sales with Sears Roebuck, Boston Mutual and Metropolitan, Peter and Gloria retired in 1984 and moved to Florida.  During their 30 years of retirement in Weeki Wachee, they made many new friends and Peter played lots of golf and continued to volunteer, serving on the first board of the Heather Golf and Country Club, the Board of their Homeowners Association and the planning of many social activities in their community. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Paula Morgero of Shelton with whom he resided; daughter, Karen DelVecchio of Trumbull; grandchildren Mario DelVecchio III, Jillian DelVecchio, Jessie DelVecchio, Robert Morgero, Heather DeNicola and Brittney Frankel; great-grandchildren, Zoe and Joseph; sister and brother-in-law Carol and James Bochicchio and many nieces, nephews and close friends. In addition to Gloria and his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Anastasia Casazza, Dolores Robustelli, Ann Ellis, Pauline Moreno and Diana Morgero and brother Jerome Morgero mother and father-in-law, Frances and Margaret Small, sister-in-law Margaret Eschmann, and brother and sister-in-law Warren and Fran Small. The family would like to thank the staff of Synergy Home Care and Vitas Hospice, especially Karen and Nyema for their compassionate care of our family over the past six months. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:00a.m., from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 10:00a.m., in St. Catherine of Siena Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 7p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the veteran's charity of choice in Peter's memory.
