Raymond J. Hannan, 82 of Trumbull, CT went home on Monday, May 24th, 2010 after a brave battle against cancer. Ray is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Hannan, Children Mike Hannan and his wife Marty of Madison, AL, Pete Hannan of Milford, CT, daughter-in-law Kelli Hannan of Shelton, CT, John Hannan and his wife, Barbara, of Trumbull, CT, and Anne Hannan of Stratford, CT and grandchildren, Heather, Ryan, Casey, Julie, Brian, Patrick and Susie Hannan. Ray left Harding High School to enlist in the Navy where he served in the Pacific during World War II. After honorary discharge, he continued on to St. Michael's College in Burlington, VT on the G.I. Bill and then began a lifelong career as President at F.H. Hannan Supply Company in Bridgeport, CT. Ray was a tremendous father and extraordinary grandfather. He was always involved and loved cheering on his family at sporting events, concerts and any activity that he could lend his support. He always made a special effort to attend events even if they were far away, hand-deliver birthday cards, and checking with everyone on the phone. He enjoyed the holidays most when the entire family was together for Thanksgiving or a summer barbeque. Ray was a Past Commander of the United States Power Squadron and enjoyed teaching Celestial Navigation, which he put into action as Navigator during several races to Bermuda- several of which he and his crew claimed first place. He was a lifelong sailor and enjoyed his memberships at Pequonnock Yacht Club, Fayerweather Yacht Club, and Housatonic Boat Club. He loved his sailboat "Fianna", and spent many happy years with his family and friends racing and cruising. In the summer, he could be found Wednesday nights on Long Island Sound with his crew competing in the local racing series. Annual cruises to Block Island were his joy and always included sitting at least once on the deck of National. He was an avid Red Sox and N.Y. Giants fan and loved John Wayne movies. Ray was predeceased by his brother Judd Hannan and sisters Marita Bergquist, Nancy Reilly, and Sylvia Hannan. Ray was a parishioner of St. Theresa Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00a.m., meeting directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull, with a Mass of Christian Burial, followed by full military honors. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8pm, in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
