Obituary

Raymond Joseph Plouffe, age 67, of Newtown, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on October 14, 1959, he was the son of Joan E. Plouffe and the late Raymond J. Plouffe.

Ray is survived by his two children, David Plouffe and Jessica Plouffe; his two sisters, Jocelyn Paoletta (and her late husband, Joe) and Elisa Pritchard; and his brother-in-law and close friend, Gene Pritchard. He is also survived by his niece, Jordan Paoletta (Steven Mathews); nephew, Jonathan Paoletta (Samantha and Griffin); godmother and aunt, Susan Dorsey; aunt, Janice Wallace (Brian); aunt, Dolores Roche (and the late Robert); uncle, Father Donald A. Parker (Carol); and many cousins, friends, and colleagues.

After graduating from Fairfield University Magna Cum Laude, Raymond attended Villanova University School of Law attaining his Juris Doctor in 1984.

Ray cut his law teeth at Marsh, Day, and Calhoun and he then began his acclaimed 37-year law career with Bai, Pollock, and Dunnigan (which later became Bai Pollock Blueweiss & Mulcahey, P.C.).

Most recently Ray joined Morrison Mahoney, LLP and while there continued his reputation as a Lawyer’s Lawyer.

Throughout Ray’s life he had an avid love for his dogs, specifically Springer Spaniels – from Max, to Maggie, to Piper – spanning 4 decades of companionship. He was an expert fly fisherman and fished many major rivers in the Northeast and out West. He loved music and his guitars and would sometimes surprise you by playing and pushing through a classic Keith Richards riff on his gear. When Ray took an interest in something he pushed all in, there was no such thing as half-throttle, and he quickly educated himself to the point of subject matter expert.

On a professional level and in the practice of law, in his prime, no doubt Ray was one of the best trial lawyers this state has ever seen. He was knowledgeable, confident, and on point with his delivery. And for those who experienced Ray in social settings, he could navigate any conversation without pause or hesitation, but with full attention and engagement.

The abruptness with which his life was taken is a deeply painful loss for everyone. In moments like this, it feels as though there is no clear explanation for why events unfold the way they do. Such circumstances test our faith, our personal conviction and salvation, our trust in our beliefs.

Ray accepted his fate with dignity, knowing that his purpose here had been served and trusting in God’s plan.

Ray’s celebration of life and burial was private. However, we encourage all those touched by Raymond’s bright heart and brilliant legal mind to share their stories online. Please visit www.redgatehennessy.com
