Raymond H. Smith, age 90, of St. Charles, IL, and a long time resident of Fairfield, died August 31, 2009, at Rosewood Care Center, St. Charles. He was born October 8, 1918, in Bridgeport, to Howard and May Smith. Raymond attended Yale University then served during World War II with the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage to his first wife Enis for 23 years who died of cancer in 1963. Raymond married Dorothy A. Sliva in January of 1965. He was vice president of LaResista Corset Co., Bridgeport and president of Kellwood Co. Southern Foundations Division Plant in Alamo, TN. He held executive positions with Kellwood Co. in New York City and Chicago. Raymond loved his family and friends, enjoyed his work and colleagues, skiing, golfing, racquet ball, boating and sports cars. He was truly a very special man and will be loved and missed by us all. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, two sons, Thomas Smith and wife Maureen of Bethel and Howard Smith and wife Melinda of Trumbull, a daughter, Cheri Hunt and husband Jeff of St. Charles, IL, five grandchildren, Marissa, Cloe, Avery, Bradley and Gavin, a brother, Robert Smith and wife Anita of Stratford and a sister, Candice Ganley of Fairfield. He was predeceased by a sister Barbara Smith Montreys. Friends are invited to attend funeral services, Saturday, October 10, at 9:00 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
