IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard F.
Roof
February 16, 1945 – November 11, 2024
Richard F. Roof, known to all as Rick, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at the age of 79. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who shared his life, laughter, and wisdom with all who knew him. Born in Orlando, FL, on February 16, 1945, Rick was the son of the late Richard and Eleanor Ives Roof.
Rick and his devoted wife, Marylou Santucci Roof, shared more than 55 wonderful years together. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Andrea and Brian, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in Rick's heart. For Rick, family was everything. He brought warmth and humor to every gathering, often presiding over family dinners as the best "Pop Pop" anyone could ask for.
Rick grew up in Fairfield, graduating from Roger Ludlowe High School. He went on to earn both a bachelor's and master's degree from Iona College, balancing the demands of work and family with remarkable dedication. His career spanned over 40 years in Information Systems and Accounting, where he made lasting contributions at Continental Baking Company, Chesebrough Ponds, and finally as Manager of Financial Systems at Transamerica Leasing.
Upon retiring, Rick found a new kind of joy working at the Trumbull Library, where he spent 15 years bringing smiles and stories to young readers. Rick's quiet passions included stamp collecting, genealogy, and his enthusiasm for Civil War history. His dedication to his family's roots led him to volunteer with the Connecticut Ancestry Society, where he helped others uncover their histories with the same care he brought to his own.
A proud member of the Coast Guard Reserve, Rick's quiet strength and selflessness were never more evident than in the heroic yet humble way he carried out his duties. Even after his time in the service, he continued to be a steady, grounding presence for his loved ones, a calming force who could handle any situation without breaking his calm demeanor.
Rick's legacy lives on in his wife, Marylou; his children Andrea and her husband Jay Caggiano, and Brian and his wife Tanya; his grandchildren Alexander, Evan, Erika Roof, Regina, and AJ Caggiano; his great-grandchildren Jackson and Carson Roof; and countless others who were blessed by his friendship, humor, and wisdom. Predeceased by his parents, sister Patricia Roof, and brother Ronald Roof, Rick will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
