Rita Frances Carroll of Fairfield died peacefully on July 29, 2008. Born in Fairfield, daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Donahue) Carroll, she graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Hartford as a Registered Nurse. After graduation she was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego on the plastic surgery units. Discharged as Lieutenant J.G. she began her nursing career in Bridgeport: Supervisor Public Health Nurses, Director of Nurses at Dinan Center, Director of Nurses at Lourdes Center, Wilton. She was elected president of catholic nurses, chaired their New England Convention and created programs to assist nurses in all stages of their lives. Nursing was her profession, her life and her love. All who new her were enriched by her love of family, faith and life. Rita Carroll is survived by her sister Agnes C. Callahan of Fairfield, niece Catherine Callahan Brennan and her husband James of Wethersfield, nephew Timothy Callahan and his wife Eileen of Fairfield, and grand nieces and nephews, Patrick, Colleen and Daniel Callahan and Maura and Brighid Brennan. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph and her sisters Helen E. Carroll, Catherine C. Whelan, and Alice C. Briggs. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00am in St. Augustine Cathedral with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Friday
