Rita Ashley Doremus, 95, of Easton, wife of the late Andrew Doremus, passed away May 8, 2013 at the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital, with her son by her side.  Rita was born in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Ambrose and Mary McCullough Ashley.  She attended St. Augustine's Grammar School and was a graduate of Central High School.  Rita worked at General Electric in Bridgeport where she met her husband, after they married they resided in Tampa, FL while he served in the Army-Air Corp. The family relocated back to Bridgeport and eventually moved to Easton where she remained a resident for 60 years.  She was a volunteer at the Easton Public Library for over 50 years and recently was awarded the Ann Lindquist Award for her service. Rita is survived by her son, Phillip Doremus of Easton, a sister, Margaret Carroll of Fairfield, nieces, Susan Catalano of Greenwich, Patricia Carroll of Fairfield, a nephew, Robert Carroll of Stamford and several grand nieces. In addition to her husband and parents, Rita was predeceased by a brother, William Ashley, a sister, Anne Ashley and a nephew, William Carroll, Jr.  Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Notre Dame of Easton Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by her cousin, Msgr. Edward Scull.  Burial will be private.  At Rita's request there will be no calling hours.
