Robert Gerard Carpentier, age 90, of the Lordship section of Stratford, died peacefully, Thursday, August 21, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at Bridgeport Hospital from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was the beloved husband of Gene Lasswell Carpentier. Mr. Carpentier was born in Waterbury on March 9, 1918, the son of the late John Jules and Marie Louise Grenier Carpentier. He lived in Trumbull for almost 30 years before moving to Lordship in 1975. Before retiring he was employed for 30 years at Avco Lycoming, Stratford as supervisor of abrasive engineering, also serving as representative for the United States of American Standards on Industrial Diamonds. Upon retirement he worked at Hawley Industrial Supply as an abrasive and diamond tool specialist for 13 years before finally retiring at the age of 75. He was a life time member of the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers, a charter member of the American Society for Abrasive Methods and a member of the Home and School Association of Southbury Training School. He was a communicant at Our Lady of Peace Church, Lordship. In addition to his wife he is survived by children Richard (Lori) Carpentier of Berlin, Jeannine (Michael) McCann of New Haven, Corinne (James) Bylone of Tampa, FL, and stepson David (Lisa) Swanson of Killingworth; grandchildren, Michele McGuire, Sean McCann, John Carpentier, James and Laura Bylone and Timothy, Stephanie and Evan Swanson; great grandchildren, Connor and Mary Kate McGuire, Emma Bylone and Madeleine Carpentier, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Barnes Carpentier, a brother Charles Carpentier, and sisters Rita Coyle and Marie Cherubini. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:15 am, from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 11:00 am, in St. Theresa Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds. Family and friends may call Sunday from 4pm to 8pm in the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the staffs at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, Fairfield, and Bridgeport Hospital for the loving care of Robert.
