Robert Frederick O'Donnell, age 75, of Monroe, died peacefully, Sunday, April 20, 2008, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Tobis O'Donnell. Born April 22, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Elsie Takach O'Donnell, and was a life long area resident. Robert lived with his son Mark J. O'Donnell and his wife Marie Perrone O'Donnell, son, Keith C. O'Donnell, and granddaughter Gina O'Donnell. He is also survived by his son Robert K. O'Donnell of Waterbury, daughter Cathleen O'Donnell Donovan, and her husband Mark of Oxford, MA, grandsons Michael and Kevin Donovan also of Oxford; granddaughter Laura and Erika O'Donnell of Monroe. Robert was one of nine children. He was predeceased by his sister Shirley Marchetti and brother Charles O'Donnell. His surviving brothers and sisters are, William O'Donnell and his wife Rose, John O'Donnell and his wife Carol, Catherine "Sissy" LaFrance, Elsie Brunswick and her husband Gilbert, Carol "Tootie" LeBlanc and her husband Lester, and Mary Mikita and her husband Donald; and also Elvira (Mrs. Charles) O'Donnell. He loved Theresa Marinaro and Danny Fredricks "Jr.", Marie's children, who knew him as papa. Bob spent many holidays with his niece "Mo" and her family in Newington, he enjoyed his nephew and Godson Jackie Dienes; and also leaves numerous additional nieces and nephews. Robert was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1955 with the United States Air Force. Robert worked as a meter reader and serviceman for the Southern Connecticut Gas Company, as well as Vitramon and Chalk Hill Middle School as a custodian for many years. Robert loved to play 500 Rummy with his family and friends. He was "the champ" and claimed "victory" to all. His hobbies were collecting matchboxes, David Winter Cottages, Lionel trains, and playing cars with R.J. his "little man". Robert was also "Mr. Christmas"; he was really proud of his Dept. 56 Villages and told everyone about his display. Bob loved to play baseball and was an avid Red Sox and Ted Williams fan. He was a funny and caring family man, a dear friend to many, especially enjoying his friendship with Barbara Yeager and other at the Senior Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 9:00 a.m. from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephen Church 6948, Main Street, Trumbull, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
