Robert D. Smith, age 92, husband of Anita Kenney Smith and the late Ruth Buckley Smith, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013. Robert was born in Fairfield, son of the Howard A. and May Downs Smith and resided in the Bridgeport – Stratford areas most of his life. He attended Yale University and served as a Major with the Army – Air Corp during World War II. Robert retired as Chief Pilot for American Maize Products Co. and early in his career was a sales representative for LaResista Corset Co. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking, swimming and skiing. Survivors include five children; Kathleen Fritz and husband John of Stratford, Robert H. Smith and wife Joeanna of Easton, Moira Cook and husband John of Skowhegan, ME, M. Bridget Smith-Skalandunas and husband Tom of Killingworth, and Courtney of Canada, a sister, Candace Ganley of Fairfield, thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five children; Sean, William J. and Kevin Smith, also Susan A. Smith and Mary Ann Luedee, a brother, Raymond H. Smith and a sister, Barbara Montreys. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., in St. Ann Church, 481 Brewster St., Black Rock, with a Mass of Christian Burial.
