Robert Stephen Van Gurp, age 57 of Fairfield, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2008 in St. Vincent's Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on June 3, 1951 in Bridgeport to Ann M. McNellis and Everett P. Van Gurp. Bob grew up in Trumbull and graduated from Trumbull High School. He lived in Shelton for many years prior to moving to Fairfield. Bob will be remembered by family and friends as a man with positive outlook, a great sense of humor, and a strong will to overcome adversity. He was predeceased by both of his parents. He is survived by his cherished son, William Robert Van Gurp of Middletown, two bothers Everett William Van Gurp of San Jose, CA, John Van Gurp and wife Virginia of Lynchburg, VA, two sisters, Ann Farrell and husband Walter of Orleans, MA and Kathleen Bahe and husband Henry of Fairfield, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
