IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robin Gustaaf
Frederik Nauta
October 2, 1930 – October 4, 2024
Robin Nauta, 94, of Trumbull, Connecticut died in rehab as he recovered from a fall. He is preceded in death by his brother Ruurd Nauta and sister Frederika Kelder. He is survived by two children from his first marriage: his daughter Jacqueline Nauta-DeBlois (Don) of Trumbull and son Pieter Nauta (Elaine) of Purcellville, VA; five grandchildren: Jessica Durie (Alex), Robin Fiftal (Jeremy), Mark Nauta, Melanie Salata, and Joe Salata; as well as great-granddaughter Kaylin Fiftal. His marriages to Virginia van den Toorn, Leslie Hoder, and Jan Overton all ended in divorce.
Robin was born to Dutch parents in Balikpapan on the island of Borneo, Indonesia. The family returned to the Netherlands in 1933 and moved to Wassenaar, the Netherlands in 1936. It was from this location the family endured German occupation during World War II. After the war, he graduated from high school in 1950 and began studies for Mining Engineering in Delft. At the age of 20, Robin chose Dutch citizenship which required mandatory service with the Dutch Army. The service requirement ended with his marriage to Virginia van den Toorn and subsequent immigration to the US to attend the Colorado School of Mines in 1954.
Upon graduation in 1957, Robin was hired by Dorr-Oliver in Stamford, Connecticut and rose from field engineer to be the head of international marketing by the time he left the company in 1987. He subsequently ran a franchise for several years before working for Magotteaux in Belgium until he fully retired in 1997. He then built his dream house in Lake Monticello, Virginia where he enjoyed many years until health and other issues required him to be near family starting in 2013.
Robin was known as Opa to his grandchildren and great-granddaughter whom he adored and was blessed to see them often during the last years of his life. No service is planned per Robin's request and the family will have a private ceremony at a later date. The family would like to thank the many professional care givers at Spring Village and Lord Chamberlin in Stratford for their invaluable help during this difficult time. If you would like to honor Robin, please donate to the charity of your choice in his memory.
