Ruth Mary Saunders was born on May 1st, 1919 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Matt and Alice (Hanks) Saunders. Her father was the longtime manager of the Palace and Majestic theaters in downtown Bridgeport. Ruth attended Bridgeport Central HS and graduated from Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall in Milford, CT. Ruth worked for many years as a handbag and accessory buyer for the B. Altman department store, traveling the globe to scout merchandise. She was an accomplished amateur photographer, favoring Nikon cameras that she bought in Japan on business trips. She enjoyed going to local art shows and collected pieces from local artists. She was a lifelong devoted fan of the NY Yankees baseball team, and was always up to date on news and current events. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert M. Saunders. Her survivors are nephews Robert M. Saunders, Jr. and Andrew C. Saunders, and grandnieces Anna and Margaret Saunders, and grandnephews Christopher, Timothy, and Patrick Saunders. She was ably cared for the last sixteen years of her life by her personal assistant L. Smith; also a special thank you to St. Vincent's Medical Center and all her caregivers. She died peacefully on July 10th, 2023 in Bridgeport, CT.  Graveside services will be held Friday, September 22nd at 2:00pm in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
