Sara Bero Shalvoy passed away March 19, 2013. Sara was born in 1923 in Salt Lake City, UT to Harry and Mary Dougherty Bero. She married Joseph Shalvoy of Bridgeport, after his transfer to Salt Lake City by the Remington Arms Company. They were married in 1943 in Utah. Sara and Joe had four children; Susan, Thomas Leonard, Robert Mark, and Julie Ann. Sara and Joe resided in Bridgeport until his death in 1980, and her having to move to The Carolton Convalescent Home in 2004. Sara in addition to her husband is predeceased by her son Thomas in 1999, her siblings in Utah; John Bero, Robert Bero, Mary Hearley and William Bero, and one great grandchild Clare Frenzel of CO. Survivors include her children; Susan Richter (Edward) of Bridgeport, Robert Mark Shalvoy (Marjorie) of Pittsford, NY, and Julie Shalvoy (Nathan George) of Fairbanks, AK, a sister Susan Smales (Joseph "Butch") of Elko, NV, grandchildren; Meghan Frenzel (Tom) of Broomfield, CO, Heidi Carlson (Andrew) of Trumbull, Edward Richter III (Pam) of Oxford, Kathleen Niedbala (Paul) of Pawcatuck, Attorney Christopher Shalvoy of Chicago, 2Lt. Robert Shalvoy of Fort Drum, and Ryan George of Fairbanks, AK, thirteen great grandchildren; Andrew, Jackson and Eli Richter, Sara, Hugh, Henry, and Lucy Carlson, Caroline and Joseph Frenzel, Nora and Molly Niedbala, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim Hearley and Ann Bero and several nieces and nephews. After her children had grown, Sara returned to college, graduating cum laude from Sacred Heart University in 1971. She then worked for the Social Security Administration, and for Dr. John Lawrence. Sara was a proud member of Mensa. She had been a member of the Rosary Society of St. Peter Parish, Bridgeport, a Eucharistic Minister of St. Andrew Parish and St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport. Sara also volunteered at St. Vincent's Medical Center in the Outreach Department and as a Medicare counselor. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00a.m., meeting directly in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no prior calling hours. The family would like to thank the staff at Carolton Convalescent Home for the care they provided to Sara for the past nine years.
