Sid Potts, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Moss Potts, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Bridgeport Hospital. Sid was born July 17, 1923, in Eighton Banks County, Durham England. He and Betty met on November 19, 1943 and married October 6, 1945 in St. John's Church, Sherriff County, Durham, England. He served in the British Royal Navy from 1939 to 1945 in battles of Britain, France, Germany and Burma, and received the Oak Leaf Cluster and four metals of honor. Sid and Betty came to this country January 9, 1947, and lived in Bridgeport and Asbury Ridge, Shelton for many years, before moving to Sandy Hook to live with their daughter. He retired from Bridgeport Hospital in 1985 after 34 years of dedicated employment as assistant director of engineering. A devoted member of Calvary St. George's Episcopal Church, Bridgeport, he had also been a member of the Bridgeport Old Timers Association, Elks Lodge # 36 and for many years enjoyed playing and coaching soccer. He was predeceased by a son Allan Potts and in addition to his wife Betty is survived by two sons, Robert Potts and wife Karen of Huntington and Ian Potts of Bridgeport, a daughter, Helene Cote and her husband Daniel of Sandy Hook, a daughter-in-law Debbie Potts of Naugatuck, six grandchildren, Stephanie Potts, April Bond and husband Brian, Kay Bedard and husband Jimmy, Sara Potts, Ian Potts, his only grandson whom he worshipped and Taylor Cote, a great granddaughter Ashley Potts. All of who were the pride and joy of his life. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 11:00 a.m., direct at Calvary St. George's Episcopal Church, 755 Clinton Ave., Bridgeport, with the Rev. Douglas Nissing, Rector, officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
