Obituary

Stephen Yusko passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2022 at Middlebrook Farms. His survivors include his sister Selma Tansey and brother Michael, beloved nieces Mary Valade (Jay), Patricia Welch (Tom), niece Lauri Yusko, his devoted cousin Judy Kowalchick, great nieces Erin Valade, Cait Welch, great nephews, Matt Valade, Jack and Michael Welch and many cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Shelia nee O'Brien, parents Stephen and Victoria and brother Lawrence. Steve was raised in the South End of Bridgeport, into his early teens. His favorite saying was "you can take the kid out of the South End but could never take the South End out of the kid ". He graduated from Notre Dame High School where he was a Latinum Scholar and inducted into the National Honor Society. He then got his Bachelor's degree from Duquesne University where he played varsity tennis and was one of twelve seniors inducted into the very first Duquesne Hall of Fame for his many contributions to the University. He then received his Master's Degree at University of Bridgeport in Experimental Psychology and presented his thesis at the Eastern Psychological Association in NY. He then went on to get an advanced degree at Fairfield University. Steve eventually became a School Psychologist, most of which he spent 37.5 years with the Board of Education in Bridgeport. He was a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. He was a member of the Bridgeport and CT Teacher's Associations, the Greater Bridgeport Retired Teachers Association, the Association of Retired Teachers of CT. and the National Association of School Psychologists. He was also a member of the Gaelic American Club. However, his proudest achievement was becoming a certified CT EMT and he served several years as a volunteer EMT/Driver with Trumbull EMS. He was a member of the CT Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team. He was a member of the Inland/Wetlands Commission and Counseling Board in Trumbull. He became certified in Clinical Hypnosis and was in private practice for five years. Interment will be private. Stephen's family would like to thank the staff and the residents at Middlebrook Farms in Trumbull for their care and compassion during his time there this past year.
