Obituary

Susan Jane (Susie) Ciglar age 69 of Stratford, left this world peacefully with family members by her side on Saturday, October 29, 2011 in St. Vincent's Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Bridgeport on December 17, 1941, the daughter of the late Muriel Builter and Robert Ciglar. Susan was a graduate of St. Augustine School, Stratford High School class of 59 and Housatonic Community College with a degree in accounting. She started her working years at Columbia Records alongside her uncle Ray Builter then moved on to Avco-Lycoming which became Allied Signal, after Allied moved to Arizona she consulted for a time when she landed a job at Warnaco in Milford from where she recently retired. Susan played softball and basketball at Sterling House also bowling with her many sisters at Town Fair. Susan was a devoted sister and friend. She loved to travel especially to her home in Florida. She enjoyed watching the local sports teams in action, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Bridgeport Bluefish, Connecticut Sun, and the UCONN Women's basketball team. Susan was a member of the Gaelic-American Club, Allied Signal Retirees and the CWV Auxiliary Bower Post #1466 where she served as ritual officer for many years. She loved her pinochle games with friends and playing uno at work, and quiet time spent sitting with her sister on the front porch. Survivors include her life partner of over thirty years Diane R. Markoya of Stratford, four sisters Roberta (Bobbie) Bartolotta and husband Mike of Stratford, Ellen Williams and John White of Van Nuys, CA, Joanne DaCosta and husband Mingo of Stratford, and Cathy Russell and husband J.R. of Shelbyville, KY, brother-in-law Ronald Kearns of Seymour, fourteen nieces and nephews, twenty-two great nieces and nephews, and "special family" members Regina and Thomas Markoya of Fairfield. She was predeceased by a sister Judith (Judy) Kearns. A special thank you to the staff on 9 South at St. Vincent's for their care and compassion given to Susan in her final days, and the staff of Masonicare Hospice. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00a.m., meeting directly in Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Wednesday from 3 to 7p.m. in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
