It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Teresa Brownell Gilbey on September 20, 2026, at the age of 83.

Teresa will be remembered for her kindness, strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. A dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse, Teresa spent many years caring for residents at King Street Nursing Home, where she was respected and admired by colleagues, patients, and families alike.

Teresa is survived by her loving husband, Brian Gilbey of Stratford, Connecticut; her three sons, Edward Moran and his wife Beth of Milford, Connecticut, Grant Jackson and his partner Kelly Ahearn of Oxford, Connecticut, and Christopher Jackson and his wife Jessica Jackson of North Carolina.

She is also survived by her cherished stepdaughter, Deborah Gilbey DeBease, whom Teresa lovingly referred to as “the daughter I never had,” and her son in law Robert DeBease and survived by a stepson, Derek Gilbey and his partner Katie Miller of Shelton, Connecticut.

Teresa is further survived by her former daughters-in-law, Andrea Moran of Shelton, Connecticut, and Stephanie Gilbey of Shelton, Connecticut, both of whom she loved dearly and continued to consider part of her family.

She leaves behind her sister, Anne Brownell of Liverpool, England, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members throughout Liverpool and the surrounding areas, including her beloved niece Karen Wilson and her husband Ray Wilson.

She is also survived by a sister-in-law Andrea Dowd of Fairfield CT, a brother-in-law Kenneth Kertesz and his wife Diane of Ocala Florida and another brother-in-law Jack Calkins and his wife Sharon of Torrington CT

Teresa was a proud grandmother to Avery and Ellie Jackson of North Carolina, Emma and Kaylee Jackson of Naugatuck, Connecticut, and Jake and Chloe Moran of Shelton, Connecticut.

She was also blessed with many step-grandchildren, including James, Jacob, and Brandon Gilbey; Michael O'Connell; Ashley Gilbey and her husband Connor Mericnyak; Niko Girasimopoulos; and Derek Gilbey and Andrew O’Connell

Teresa was additionally survived by several great-grandchildren, including Bryson O'Connell, Jaxson Lanzi, Delaney O'Connell, and Michael O'Connell.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Hartford HealthCare Hospice at Home, the Bridgeport Hospital Emergency Department, and the nurses and staff on Levels 7 and 8 at Bridgeport Hospital for their exceptional care. Special thanks are also extended to the Stratford Fire Department and EMS personnel for their professionalism, expertise, kindness, and support.

Teresa's greatest joy was her family. Her legacy of compassion, generosity, and dedication to others will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.

May she rest in eternal peace. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 AM meeting directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield with a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Friday 3 to 7 PM in the Redgate Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
