Obituary

Thomas Hult Layman passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 23, 2020 at the age of 73. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and beloved friend to many. Born to parents Thomas and Natalie in Bridgeport he grew up alongside his favorite cousin George "Gig" Bryers. He proudly served the town of Stratford as a firefighter for 34 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 2007. Thomas started his career, prior to firefighting as a master machinist at Moore Tool in Bridgeport. He is a veteran of the Connecticut National Guard, serving for six years and attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He had a wealth of hobbies but most enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting and fishing and enjoyed anything that involved working with his hands, especially building and cooking. He was also an avid athlete excelling at virtually any sport he participated, especially baseball, softball, basketball, tennis, golf, and racquetball. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, B. Joyce; three daughters Jessica Layman, Natalie and Matthew Keane, Rebecca and her husband Justin Andrews; five grandchildren, Aaron, Thomas and Shannon Franze, Ava Layman and Grace Keane; cousin George and his wife Christine Bryers and their two daughters, Kirsten and Gregory Heintz, Erica and Richard Wallis and children Matthew and Abigail; as well as dear friends Christina Roberts, Kevin and Kellen Palisi and their children Luke and Sophia. Tom was loved by all who knew him and was always there to help a friend. He would not want to be mourned but remembered by all through the truly great relationships he had. "Throughout my life I have been surrounded by good friends and family that made my life happy." He will be interred at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport.
