Thomas “Timmy” Zalewski, 70, a longtime resident of Naugatuck, CT passed away on February 16, 2026, in Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness.
Tom was born June 2, 1955, in Bridgeport, CT to the late Frank and Irene (Zimmie) Zalewski. A graduate of Bridgeport’s Central High School, Tom lived in Bridgeport until 1990, when he married the love of his life, Karen (Barberio) Zalewski and moved to Naugatuck to start their family. Tom spent many years working as a computer operator for Macy’s before retirement.
Tom leaves behind his two daughters Lauren Zalewski and her partner Dylan; Lindsay Catanzaro and her husband Bobby along with their son, Cameron, Tom’s beloved grandson. Tom also leaves behind his brother Jerry Zalewski and wife Martha; sister June Gallucci and husband Antonio; sister Diane Zalewski and partner Pam; brother-in-law Ken Barberio and wife Kellyann; several loving nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friends Holly and Dennis Torok. He was predeceased by his wife Karen and was devastated when she lost her battle with cancer after 32 years of marriage.
Modest and unassuming, Tom enjoyed a simple and quiet life. He especially loved fishing and bowling, and looked forward to tending to his vegetable garden each summer, always sharing cucumbers and tomatoes with his neighbors. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and UCONN Men’s and Women’s basketball. He loved watching the same classic Western movies again and again. Tom will forever be remembered for his sensitivity and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
The family would like to extend a most sincere thank you to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury and all of the staff at their Wound Healing Center for their exceptional care and support over the past year.
