Obituary

Vivian ("Viv") Rosalie Garbutt, age 85, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Bernie Garbutt, entered into eternal peace on April 16, 2011.  Born in Bridgeport on March 16, 1926, she was the daughter of the late James and Emma Nicholas Santoro.  She served her country proudly during World War II in the United States Women's Army Corps.  While a full-time mother, Viv earned an A.S. Degree in Paralegal Studies from Sacred Heart University.  Viv had many careers, but she most enjoyed her times as a paralegal for the Bridgeport Bar Association and as a librarian for the City of Bridgeport.  Viv profoundly loved her family and was a devoted wife and mother.  She enjoyed cooking, collecting antiques and sea glass, and acting and singing (at the Polka Dot Playhouse, among other places).  She is survived by her sons Sean and Bernie, her brother Vincent Santora and his wife JoAnn, and many grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:15am from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 10:00am in St. Andrew Church, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 1pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm, in the funeral home. To send online condolences please visit www.redgatehennessy.com
