Walter R. Hanscome, age 88, of Stratford, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Bridgeport Hospital. Walter was born in Portland, Maine, son of the late Ellis and Marie Crippe Hanscome. He resided for many years in Fairfield, before moving to Stratford in 1996. Walter was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and retired from the maintenance department at the Jewish Home for the Elderly. Survivors include his beloved daughter, Kathy Steferak and husband Jack of Milford, a brother, Clayton Hanscome of West Virginia, three loving grandchildren, Jack Steferak Jr., Lindsay Steferak and Dana Pettey and husband Mike, two great grandchildren, Jack Ryan Steferak and Peyton Pettey; also several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend graveside services, with full military honors on Friday at 11:00am, in Kings Highway Cemetery, Milford. The Rev. Christopher Files, Pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Milford, will officiate.
