Obituary

Walter Lanchak, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Bridgeport Hospital.  His family was with him.  He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on March 8, 1919.  Growing up poor, he joined the Merchant Marine and served in World War II.  He strived to improve his future by attending night school and any other available classes.  He founded the Walter Lanchak Co., Inc which designed large scale cooking and heating systems.  One of his many customers was the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.  He enjoyed the beach, boating and his summer cottage on Long Beach Island, NJ.  Walter had a commercial pilot's license and was certified in instrument flying.  Often he would fly his plane to distant customers.  In his later years, he enjoyed family, friends and his cats Daisy and Cookie.  He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Robert Mori of Trumbull, his cherished granddaughters and their husbands, Megan Hannan and John Gyor of Fairfield, Erin and Steve Palmer of Wallingford, VT and Kyle and Jason Black of Darien.  Walter was blessed with a great granddaughter, Elsa Lillian Palmer.  He also is survived by his brother Stephen Lanchak of PA, and his two children Stephen and Lisa and Walter's two step-children, David Forter of CA and Jan Worrell of NJ.  He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Michael, brothers, Milton and John, first wife, Lillian and second wife, Margaret.  At Walter's request burial will be private.  Arrangements by the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Trumbull, CT
