William Joseph Kearns, III, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2025, at Sunrise Assisted Living. Born in Bridgeport, on November 22, 1942, Billy was the first of four children of the late William J. and Kathleen (Murray) Kearns. He was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport.

A devoted Catholic, Billy graduated from St. Augustine's Grammar School, Notre Dame High School and Fairfield University. He then taught fourth grade in the Bridgeport Public Schools for over 30 years.

The home on West Morgan Avenue was always a place of love, laughter and family, filled with multiple generations of cousins on holidays and special events. There, true to his upbringing, he looked after his parents in their later years and took care of both his brothers during their difficult illnesses. At the end of his life Billy was faithfully watched over by his loyal cousins Richard and Patricia Douglas.

Survivors include his brother-in-law Thomas Jordan, his nephew Patrick Kearns Jordan and wife Laura, and nieces Abigail Kearns Dunn and husband Peter, Caitlin Jordan Shaffer and husband Brian, and Breinne Jordan Famulari and husband Paul, and several grandnieces and nephews. He is also remembered by many loving cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Michael Murray Kearns and Dennis Patrick Kearns and his sister Eileen Kearns Jordan.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, at 11:00am at St. Augustine's Cathedral, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. There will be no prior calling hours.
