William J. Smethurst, age 97, of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Mary "Turie" Stowe Smethurst, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Bridgeport Hospital. William was born in Bridgeport, son of the late Frank and Mae Nugent Smethurst and has lived in Trumbull 58 years. He was a retired supervisor for Sikorsky Aircraft, with 42 years of service. William was active with the Sikorsky Archives and had volunteered at Bridgeport Hospital. Survivors include his loving children, a daughter, Sharon N. Schwab and husband Jerome of Trumbull, a son, William F. Smethurst of Sandy Hook, six grandchildren, Melissa Fejes and husband Stephen, Geoffrey Robinson, James Schwab, William, Michael and James Smethurst, a great grandson, William Smethurst and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks for the love and compassion shown by his special caregiver Irakli Giorgadze. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00pm in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, with the Rev. Austin Park, Pastor of the Long Hill United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 12:00pm until time of service.
