Obituary

William L. Stapleton, age 84, of East Falmouth, MA, beloved husband of Florence Zwierlein Stapleton, died Sunday, January 3, 2010, after a long illness. Bill was born in Bridgeport, son of the late Walter V. and Wilemina Schwerdtle Stapleton and resided in Trumbull 43 years, before moving to Cape Cod. He was a graduate of St. Michael's Academy, Bronx, NY, attended the University of Bridgeport taking several courses in architecture and was an Army Veteran serving as a corporal during the Korean War. Bill was the retired president and owner of Walter V. Stapleton, General Contractors, a business founded by his father. He was a member of the General Contractors Association of Bridgeport, numerous other contractor organizations, Trumbull Exchange Club and served as a commissioner and honorary member of the Long Hill Fire District. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his loving children, Michael H. Stapleton of Lake Tahoe, NV, Lorene M. Stapleton of Milford, Christopher J. Stapleton of Monroe and Karen S. Barkley of Glastonbury, five grandchildren, Christopher, Connor and Taylor Stapleton and Callie and Justin Barkley. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:45 a.m. from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 9:30 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Trumbull, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Friends call Thursday, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.
