Tribute

Anita Zdunek, a loving wife, dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on March 21, 2022, at the age of 95, in Albuquerque, NM.  Anita was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on January 27, 1927, the last child born to Sara Gallegos Baca and Nestor T. Baca (C’de Baca) of the historic Gallegos Ranch in New Mexico.   Gallegos Ranch Church was the last crypt reserved for her ancestors dating back to 1876 and then rebuilt with the current structure in 1914

On February 15, 2019, Anita laid to rest her dearest husband of 34 years, Stephen Zdunek. She is survived by her children: Glynn Patrick Aguilar, Marie E. Aguilar-Mosher, Kelly J. Miyaki, Thomas Zdunek, Dennis Zdunek, Donna Zdunek, Leena Travis, and their spouses. She was a loving Grandmother to Zane Aguilar, Heather Aguilar, Reina Montoya, Michelle Miyaki, Sean Miyaki, Robert Miyaki, Brenda Holley, Lori Nelson, J. Zdunek, Estell Gilbert, Molly Lindley, Jim Zdunek, Jennifer Uellendahl, Christine Cox, and her numerous great-grandchildren. Preceded in death were her children Roland Zdunek and Helen Drew and grandchild Jeffery Zdunek

She attended Loretta Academy Catholic School in Santa Fe, NM graduating in 1945.  Anita was a hard-working woman who worked for numerous companies as an electronic engineering technologist for over forty years until she retired from Sandia Labs at Kirkland Air Force Base. She has been credited with wiring many of the test sites at Kirkland Air Force Base.

She was an avid reader and loved quilting with her Church of Christ ladies’ quilting group. Anita attended the Church of Christ with her husband and never missed the opportunity to participate in all the activities.  One of the many church activities she enjoyed was being a volunteer greeter and sharing time with homebound members.  She will always be remembered for giving her time and love to help her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please send your donations to help the Ukrainian people that desperately need our love and support.
